Unity Temple Named UNESCO World Heritage SIte
8 Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, including the Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois, were recently named UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This recognition is one of the highest that a cultural site or building can receive. Wright is hailed as one of the most famous American architects and his work can be found across the United States.
The Unity Temple was designed by Wright in 1905 and was restored in 2017. The project team was determined to preserve the integrity of Wright’s original design although the historic building restoration posed various complex challenges. The design boasts innovative features which allow natural light to flood the interior, a sleek exterior, and a series of internal conclaves.
